On August 16, 2026, an interview was published on the Újkor.hu website with Krisztián Csaplár-Degovics, senior research fellow and department head at the Institute of History at the ELTE Research Centre for the Humanities, in which Zoltán Oszkár Szőts, editor-in-chief of Újkor.hu, asked him about his research career, the development of his interest in the Balkans—and Albania in particular—his current research projects, and the possibilities for methodological renewal in Hungarian historiography.
The discussion touched on the issues of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy’s Balkan policy and colonial ambitions, Ferenc Nopcsa’s research, state-building in Albania, and why it is important to interpret Hungarian history within the broader contexts of Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the world. Krisztián Csaplár-Degovics also presented the project titled “Humanitarian State-Building from Abroad: Lessons on the Tools of Peacemaking” and its research objectives.
