This article recounts the 1913 Italian–Austrian–Hungarian humanitarian action, drawing on new, previously unpublished archival sources uncovered as part of the project. The most remarkable feature of this humanitarian action is that it was initiated by European great powers—which considered themselves Christian—primarily for the benefit of Muslims. The study was published in issue 2025/3 of ANNALI - MITAG.

The impetus for this study came from the discovery, among the manuscripts of the Museum of Military History in Rovereto (Museo Storico Italiano della Guerra), of a photo album documenting a humanitarian action launched by the former Adriatic powers Austria-Hungary and Italy. The album contains nearly one hundred high-quality photographs that document the events of that time and pay tribute to the participating officers and soldiers.

The album was published in a limited edition at the time (1913); currently, only two copies are known to exist. Csaplár-Degovics’s study, together with another study currently in progress, serves as an introduction to the reprint of the photo album expected in the coming years.
