On 18 June 2025, the Dr. Ibrahim Rugova Book Corner was inaugurated in the Szabó Ervin Metropolitan Library of Budapest. Ibrahim Rugova is honored as the founder of the independence of the state Kosovo and played a key role in building democratic institutions in the country that broke away from Yugoslavia.
The event included speeches by the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, the Mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, the Director General of the Szabó Ervin Metropolitan Library, Ágnes Kovácsné Koreny, and the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, Zsolt Németh.
Ibrahim Rugova was also a literary scholar, linguist, translator, aesthete and literary critic, with a distinguished academic career spanning several decades. He developed the foundations of his philosophical views on humanism, democracy and the importance of dialogue in Paris in the 1970s. The event also commemorated a prominent European thinker who played a key role in the idea of European integration of Albanian culture.
During the opening ceremony, Krisztián Csaplár-Degovics delivered a lecture on Ibrahim Rugova’s state- and nation-building activities and his academic career.
